BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Engraved portrait ca. 1620, later serving as model for the Panpoeticon Batavum series (1700-1732).
Biography engraver: Pieter Feddes van Harlingen (1586-1633) was a Frisian engraver and draughtsman, active in the early 17th century. He is known for portrait engravings of scholars and historical figures, often framed in elaborate Mannerist cartouches with Latin inscriptions. Script by P. Wensemius.
Biography artist: Arnoud van Halen (1673-1732) was a Dutch painter and collector, best known for creating the Panpo?ticon Batavum, a series of small portraits of Dutch poets and scholars, many based on earlier prints and paintings.
