BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was a Dutch engraver active in Amsterdam. He produced numerous refined portrait engravings after contemporary painters and designers. His work is characterized by delicate burin technique combined with etching, and he contributed significantly to 18th-century Dutch portrait printmaking.

Biography artist: Gerard Sanders (active mid-18th century) was a Dutch draughtsman and designer known primarily through reproductive engravings made after his designs. He provided portrait designs for leading engravers such as Pieter Tanj?.
