Biography engraver: Jacob Ernst Marcus (1737-1826) was a Dutch engraver active in Amsterdam. He produced numerous portraits of notable Dutch figures in the late 18th and early 19th century, often working after contemporary painters. His work combines etching, stipple and engraving techniques.
Biography artist: Charles Howard Hodges (1764-1837) was an English-born portrait painter active in the Netherlands. He became one of the most prominent portraitists in the Dutch Republic around 1800, portraying statesmen, scholars and members of the elite.
