Plate 18: ‘Origenes onderwijzende de Geloofsleerlingen’ (Origen teaching the religious pupils). It shows: the seated figure of Origen Adamantius between his pupils. Outside, several soldiers are looking in on the scene through the window. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C. Condition: Very good, given age. Top margin a little stained. Original middle fold. Some general age-related toning and thumbing, please study scan carefully.
