Plate 17: ‘Handgeklap van ‘t Slechte volk onder de predicatie’ (The handclapping of the Evil people during the sermon). It shows: a preacher in a pulpit, delivering a sermon, while around him several figures in the congregation are standing up and clapping their hands. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C.
