Antique print, titled: ‘The virtuous parents. Laetitia endeavours in vain by presents to reconcile her parents.’ – Interior scene with parents, their daughter and granddaughter. Undescribed copy after the print by Smith.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Bartoloti, Probably a member of the Remondini family’ after ‘George Morland’. Giuseppe Antonio Remondini (1634 -1711), around 1660, founded a printing office where he developed in particular the production of illustrated books. He created the famous school of chalcography which became one of the major European centers of this art. Then to his son Giuseppe (1672-1742), and to his sons Giovanni Antonio (1700-69) and Giambattista (1713-73). Next Giuseppe (1745-1811). Firm finally closed in 1860.  George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter of animals and rustic scenes. He was born in London, third son of Henry Robert Morland. His father, artist, engraver and picture restorer. Morland’s work in painting is characterised by the simple subjects he painted. He depicted the life he knew from his own experience. Morland worked closely with William and James Ward, and later married their sister Anne.

Condition: Good, given age. Margins cropped to the platemark. Modern coloring. Some faint soiling (mainly in the lower margin). Two closed wormholes in the caption below the image (backed with paper and acid-free archival tape). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
