BACKGROUND INFORMATION

After a 1766 painting by Francois Boucher. Companion piece to ‘La Peche’. Originally in the collection of Vassal de Saint-Hubert.

Reference: Jean-Richard 1978, no. 292; IFF (Inventaire du Fonds Fran?ais) no. 80.

Biography engraver: Jacques Firmin Beauvarlet (1731-1797) was a French engraver known for reproductive engravings of Rococo paintings. He often collaborated with artists like Boucher and Van Loo.

Biography artist: Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a major French Rococo painter known for pastoral and mythological subjects. He served as First Painter to Louis XV and was admired for his ornate, playful style.
