BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Used in several Amsterdam atlases, including the Atlas of the City of Amsterdam published by Reinier Ottens and others.

Biography engraver: Nicolaas van Frankendaal (c.1760-1780 fl.) was an Amsterdam-based engraver active in the second half of the 18th century. He is known for topographical and theatrical prints and contributed to city atlases and publications related to the performing arts.

Biography artist: Willem Writs was an 18th-century Amsterdam draughtsman, best known for his designs for theatrical scenery and architectural stage settings, which were frequently engraved by other artists.
