Medium: Engraving on hand-laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Coat of arms with a cross and a crown with letters GR below.

Condition: excellent, given age. Light soiling and creasing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Paulus Pontius (1603-1658) was a Flemish engraver and painter. He was one of the leading engravers connected with the workshop of Peter Paul Rubens. After Rubens’ death, Pontus worked with other leading Antwerp painters such as Anthony van Dyck and Jacob Jordaens.
