Description

Subject: Antique print, titled: ‘Nieuwe Kaart van Arabia’ – (‘New map of Arabia’). This antique map shows the Middle East region, then known as Arabia. The maps spans the region between Egypt and Cyprus south to Ethiopia and Somalia, includes all of Saudi-Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The southern edge of Iran. Bodies of water included are the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and the Gulf od Aden. Detailed map, with three different scales (German, English and French miles), a title cartouche and compass rose.

Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds as issued. Some small stains in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Medium: Engraving on hand laid paper.

Description: From the 4th volume of “Hedendaagsche Historie of Tegenwoordige Staat van Alle Volkeren” (Tirion, 1732).

Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Jacob Keizer’ after own design. Jacob Keizer is a Dutch engraver and cartographer active in the first half of the 18th century. Little is known of his life; according to Waller (p. 173) he was active in Russia and Amsterdam, and later Almelo.
