BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Part of a series of twelve plates of the illuminations and decorations in Amsterdam on the 40th birthday of Prince William V on March 8, 1788 titled “Illuminati?n en decorati?n te Amsterdam op de 40ste verjaardag van prins Willem V in 1788.” published by widow Jan Doll.

Biography engraver: Jan Lucas van der Beek (1753-1818) was an artist from Amsterdam who primarily etched, engraved, and drew portraits.

Biography artist: Willem Kok (1761-1807) was a print artist, engraver (printmaker), etcher born on 1761 in Oosterhout and died on 1807-03-29 in Amsterdam.
