Biography engraver: Simon Fokke (1712-1784) was a Dutch designer, etcher, engraver, and occasional actor. A pupil of Jan Caspar Philips, he worked mainly for Amsterdam publishers, producing book illustrations, portraits, topographical views, and historical scenes. His prints are characterized by fine detailing and lively narrative compositions, often documenting contemporary events.
