BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From the series ‘IX Gezichten in, en bij het landschap Drenthe’ (Wurzbach 2), published by Cornelis Sebille Roos in Amsterdam, 1771-1816.

Biography engraver: Hendrik Schwegman (1761-1816) was a Dutch engraver and printmaker active in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He is known for reproductive landscape prints after contemporary Dutch painters, translating their tonal and atmospheric effects into refined etchings.

Biography artist: Egbert van Drielst (1745-1818) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman, often called the ‘Drentse Hobbema’ for his wooded landscapes inspired by 17th-century masters. Working mainly in Groningen and Drenthe, he became known for idyllic rural scenes with monumental trees and shepherd figures.
