BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Jonas Suyderhoef (c. 1613-1686), Dutch engraver known for finely detailed portrait engravings and reproductions of paintings by Dutch masters. He was active in Haarlem and produced many prints after contemporary painters including Frans Hals and Thomas de Keyser.
Biography artist: Thomas de Keyser (c. 1596-1667) was a Dutch painter and architect, prominent in early 17th-century Amsterdam. He was renowned for portraiture and was a key predecessor to Rembrandt. His work reflects detailed realism and a focus on Amsterdam’s patrician class.
