Medium: Copper engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 62 x 53.2 cm (24.41 x 20.94 inch). Image size: 57.7 x 48.7 cm. (22.72 x 19.17 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Horizontal crease, minor brown stain on lower fold, small spots in margins, original middle fold as issued. Backed paper tears in bottom center fold and bottom left margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Originally published by Nicolaes Visscher, later reissued by Pieter Schenk.

Biography engraver: Nicolaes Visscher (1618-1679) was a Dutch cartographer and member of the famous Visscher family, known for producing detailed maps and atlases. His work was continued by his son and grandson.

Biography artist: Pieter Schenk (1660-1718/19) was a Dutch engraver and publisher who reworked and republished many existing maps from Jansson, Visscher, and Sanson. He also produced original maps and atlases, mainly in Amsterdam and Leipzig.
