Antique print, titled: ‘H. Mich. Adrian Ruyter. R. und Admiral von Holl. und Westfriesland.’ – A portrait of Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter (1607 – 1676), the most famous and one of the most skilled admirals in Dutch history. De Ruyter is most famous for his role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 17th century. He fought the English and French and achieved several major victories, the best known probably being the Raid on the Medway. Published by Paulus Furst, who was a print publisher in Nuremberg. firm continued after his death in 1666 by his widow and heirs until 1704. Ref: van Someren 4710Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Cornelius Nicolaus Schurtz’ after own design. Cornelius Nicolaus Schurtz (1651-1700) was a German engraver and draughtsman.
Condition: Good, given age. Light creasing in margin. Horizontal fold in middle of print, with small tear in right margin, backed with acid free tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
