BACKGROUND INFORMATION
First published in ‘Vite de’ pittori, scultori et architetti moderni’ (1672), Giovanni Pietro Bellori. This is a later impression c. 1800.

Biography engraver: P. Simon or Albertus Clouwet (1636-1679) was a Flemish engraver who worked in Italy and is known for his engraved portraits, many of which appeared in biographical collections of artists and noble figures.
Biography artist: Agostino Carracci (1557-1602) was an Italian painter and engraver, and one of the founding members of the Carracci Academy in Bologna. He was instrumental in the development of Baroque art alongside his brother Annibale and cousin Ludovico.
