Crayon lithograph with toned background on vellin paper.
Sheet size: 33 x 42,7 cm. Image size: 27,3 x 34,8 cm.
From: ‘Three Hundred French Portraits representing Personages of the Courts of Francis I , Henry II , and Francis II , by Clouet’, by Lord Ronald Gower, after the originals when they were at Castle Howard, Yorkshire. Published in London 1875. First edition.
Made by Lord Ronald Gower after Francois Clouet. Lord Ronald Charles Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (2 August 1845 – 9 March 1916), known as Lord Ronald Gower, was a Scottish Liberal politician, sculptor and writer from the Leveson-Gower family. Francois Clouet (c. 1510-1572), son of Jean Clouet, was a French Renaissance miniaturist and painter, particularly known for his detailed portraits of the French ruling family.
Condition: Good, given age. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
