ELISABETH OF VALOIS-QUEEN-SPAIN-PORTRAIT-P.31 ‘Madame Elizabeth, Royne d’Espagne 14 ans’ [Lord GOWER after CLOUET, 1875]

This scarce original antique print shows a portrait of Elisabeth of Valois (2 April 1545 – 3 October 1568), she was a Spanish queen consort as the third spouse of Philip II of Spain. She was the eldest daughter of Henry II of France and Catherine de’ Medici. Auto-lithographed from the originals at Castle Howard, Yorkshire.

Made by Lord Ronald Gower after Francois Clouet. Lord Ronald Charles Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (2 August 1845 – 9 March 1916), known as Lord Ronald Gower, was a Scottish Liberal politician, sculptor and writer from the Leveson-Gower family. Francois Clouet (c. 1510-1572), son of Jean Clouet, was a French Renaissance miniaturist and painter, particularly known for his detailed portraits of the French ruling family.

Condition: Good, given age. A few minor foxing spots. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
