Original antique print showing a portrait of William the Silent or William the Taciturn (1533 – 1584), more commonly known in the Netherlands as William of Orange (Dutch: Willem van Oranje), the main leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs that set off the Eighty Years’ War. He was also founder of the Leiden University.
