Medium: Etching and engraving (line engraving with etching), printed in black ink on hand laid (verge) paper.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was a Dutch engraver, etcher and draughtsman active in Amsterdam. He became one of the most prominent portrait engravers in the Dutch Republic during the mid-18th century. Tanj? combined delicate burin work with etching, producing refined portraits after contemporary painters and designers.
