Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was a Dutch engraver, etcher and draughtsman active in Amsterdam. He became one of the most prominent portrait engravers in the Dutch Republic during the mid-18th century. Tanj? combined delicate burin work with etching, producing refined portraits after contemporary painters and designers.
Biography artist: Gerard Sanders (1702-1767) was a German-born Dutch draughtsman and designer, active in Rotterdam. He provided portrait designs for leading engravers such as Pieter Tanj?. His compositions often include elaborate allegorical framing in keeping with mid-18th-century taste.
