Medium: Copper engraving on hand-laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 38 x 32 cm (14.96 x 12.6 inch). Image size: 33.5 x 26.8 cm. (13.19 x 10.55 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Original folding line, some minor soiling and wear. Blank verso. Plate trrimmed and attached to a carrier. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in ‘Nieuwe Cronyk van Zeeland’ by Mattheus Smallegange, printed by J. Meertens and A. van Someren, 1696.

Biography engraver: Johannes Meertens (?-1699) was a Dutch publisher and printer in Middelburg, known for printing official documents and historical works. Abraham van Someren (1662-1700) was an Amsterdam-based bookseller and publisher.

Biography artist: Mattheus Smallegange (1624-1710) was a Dutch historian, lawyer, and genealogist. His major work, ‘Nieuwe Cronyk van Zeeland’ (1696), provided a detailed history of the Zeeland province.
