Made by ‘Pieter van der Borcht’ after own design. Pieter van der Borcht (Flemish. 1545-1608) was born in Malines and worked there and in Antwerp. He was one of the first to use the etching-technique extensively. He was the chief illustrator of the famous Antwerp publisher Plantijn. The importance of the graphic work by the van der Borcht family is now being recognized and is characterized by a powerful etching style with clear Italian Renaissance influence.
Condition: Good, given age. Image trimmed from a larger sheet with one more illustration. Rear text. Small tear at bottom left. Remains of tape from attachment on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
