Antique print, untitled. A landscape with Selene (Greek goddess of the moon) stopping to kiss her sleeping mortal lover, the shepherd Endymion. Two spying cherubs in foliage to the right. Published by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi (1627 – 1691), an Italian engraver and printer, active in Rome in the second half of the 17th century.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Franciscus de Neve II’ after own design. Franciscus de Neve (II) (also: Frans de (II) Neve, Fraciscus de Neuff, Francesco della Neve and nicknames: Bloosaerken and Blaserken, 1632-1704) was a Flemish painter and engraver. He is known for his late Baroque religious and mythological scenes and landscapes. He had an international career in Italy, Southern Germany and Austria where he worked for aristocratic patrons and churches. He returned to his native Flanders later in his life.
Condition: Good, given age. Dampstains in the lower left of the print. A small stain in the top right of the image and a faint stain in the middle of the image. Vertical fold in middle of print. Minimal paper loss in the lower left margin corner (a little loss of caption). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
