Source unknown, to be determined. Provenance: Doublet of the Albertina collection, Vienna (Lugt 5f).Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Jean Sauveur LeGros’ after ‘Olivier Le May’. Jean Sauveur/Salvator LeGros (1754-1834) originated from Versailles. He trained with Adam Bartsch and travelled extensively before settling in Belgium. Olivier Le May (Valenciennes 1734 – 1797 Paris) was a French painter and engraver. He was trained at the Academy of Valenciennes. He was a friend of Watteau. His work is inspired by Dutch masters such as Berchem and Dujardin.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
