Plate: ‘Le Poete Roquebrune rompt la Ceinture de sa Culotte en voulant monter a cheval a la place de Ragotin.’ (The poet Roquebrune breaks the belt of his shorts, while wanting to climb at a horse at the Ragotin square.) Original Master Print, published ca. 1732-1740. This plate is part of a series: ‘Cycle du Roman comique au chateau de Sans-Souci.’ , based on Paul Scarron: ‘Le Roman comique.’ (1651 et 1657). Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: This plate engraved by Edme Jeaurat (French 1688-1738) after Jean-Baptiste Francois Pater (French 1695-1736). Paul Scarron (1610-1660) was a French poet, dramatist, and novelist.
