Plate: ‘Ragotin declame des vers des paysans croyent qu’il presche.’ (Ragotin declaims the verses of the peasants who believe he preaches.) Original Master Print, published ca. 1732-1740. This plate is part of a series: ‘Cycle du Roman comique au chateau de Sans-Souci.’ , based on Paul Scarron: ‘Le Roman comique.’ (1651 et 1657). Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: This plate engraved by Benoit II Audran (French 1698-1772) after Jean-Baptiste Francois Pater (French 1695-1736). Paul Scarron (1610-1660) was a French poet, dramatist, and novelist.

Condition: Good. General age related toning. Small damp stain bottom right corner. Please study scan carefully.
