Antique Master Print, titled: ‘Village Politicians.’ – Several villagers are gathered in an inn. They are reading the newspaper and discussing politics. Source unknown, to be determined. Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Abraham Raimbach’ after ‘David Wilkie’. Abraham Raimbach (1776-1843) was an English line-engraver of Swiss descent. He was born in London and was initially apprenticed to the engraver J. Hall from 1789 to 1796. He had a warm friendship with David Wilkie, and engraved many of his pictures. David Wilkie (1785-1841) was a Scottish painter. He became a leading figure in his profession at an early age. he was elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1811 (when he was onnly 25).
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped to the platemark. A small tear in the lower edge, and one in the top edge, both extending slightly into the image. Tear inside image at right middle, backed, but barely visible. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
