Maltreatement / torture of indigenous Peruvians, who served as carriers for the army of Pedro de la Gasca in his march against Gonzalo Pizarro in 1547. Gonzalo Pizarro y Alonso (1502 – April 10, 1548) was a Spanish conquistador and younger paternal half-brother of Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror of the Inca Empire. Initially in support of the Spanish cause, he later faught the Spanish court after laws were enacted in support of indigenous people and limiting the power of the conquistadors. Pedro de la Gasca (1485-1567) was a Spanish bishop, diplomat and the second (acting) viceroy of Peru, from April 10, 1547 to January 27, 1550.

This section is part of this book and titled: ‘Seer aanmerkelijke scheepts-togten, gedaan door Franciscus Pizarrus, en Didacus Amagrus van Panama na Peru in den Jare 1526 …’ (Transl.: Very remarkable sea-voyages, by Franciscus Pizarro and Diego de Almagro to Panama and Peru in 1526 …). Pieter van der Aa (1659-1733) was a Dutch publisher best known for preparing maps and atlases, though he also printed pirated editions of foreign bestsellers and illustrated volumes. He also printed many maps that were often out of print, which he reissued.

Biography engraver: Jan Goeree (1670-1731), Amsterdam-based draughtsman and engraver, son of Willem Goeree, pupil of Gerard de Lairesse, known for historical illustrations and emblems.
