La Noce au Chateau. – This print shows a wedding near a castle. The bride ogling to the groom.They are surrounded with many people sitting on the ground, all having fun. A small boy playing with a dog. A man is playing the violin in the back. A carrige is waiting near a wall. In the lower margin a coat of arms with a lion on one side and the text: ‘juncta placenti’.

‘La Noce au Chateau.’

Etching & mezzotint engraving on handlaid (verg?) paper.
Sheet size: 28 x 38,5 cm. (11 x 15,2 inch). Image size: 23,5 x 36 cm. (9,3 x 14,2 inch).

This attractive print was originally published in Paris under supervision of mr. Godefroy, supreme controler of the marine in 1789. This is possibly a later impression.

Made by ‘Philibert Louis Debucourt’ after own design. Philip Louis Debucourt (1755-1832) was a French painter and engraver, student of Vien, active in Paris. He specialised in large very finely worked aquatints in multiple colours.

Condition: Good, given age. Brownish in left margin. Trimmed at platemark, Light creasing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
