Omnis Creatura compatitur Christo morienti, solus miser homo non compatitur, pro quo solo Christus patitur.’ / ‘Romae apud carolum losi anno 1553. – This print shows the Entombment of Christ. Landscape with Jesus Christ being laid in a tomb by St John at centre, aided by Virgin Mary and St. Mary Magdalene, St Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus standing at right, two mourning figures beyond, a thorn-crown in foreground, in the distance are the three crosses with the two thieves still in situ.

Source unknown, to be determined. Ref: Copy C after the print from Cornelis Cort, New Hollstein 71 in the second and last print.

Made by ‘Domenico Tibaldi after Cornelis Cort’ after ‘Giulio Clovio’. Domenico Tibaldi Pellegrino / Pellegrini Tibaldi (1541-1583) with monogram D.F. on the plate which stands for Domenico Tibaldi Fecit. After Cornelis Cort (1533-1578) who was a Dutch engraver and draughtsman. He spent the last 12 years of his life in Italy, where he was known as Cornelio Fiammingo.

Condition: Good, given age. Some soiling, particularly in bottom right corner. Remains of writing in bottom margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
