BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This print originates from: ‘Histoire des Provinces-Unies des Pays Bas…’, or ‘Geschiedenissen der Vereenigde Nederlanden…’ by Jean Le Clerc, 1723-1728 or 1730.

Biography engraver: Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French engraver active in Amsterdam. He is known for his refined book illustrations and portraits, and for directing large illustrated publishing projects in the Dutch Republic during the early 18th century.
