BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Jacobus Houbraken (1698-1780) was a Dutch engraver and etcher from Amsterdam, son of Arnold Houbraken. He became one of the most important portrait engravers of the 18th century in the Netherlands, producing refined book illustrations and historical portrait series for publishers such as Isaak Tirion.
Biography artist: Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) was a Dutch draughtsman, designer and topographical artist. He supplied numerous portrait drawings that were translated into engravings by Houbraken and others for historical publications in the Dutch Republic.
