Antique print, titled: ‘Elyah fed by ravens.’ – Elijah seated in the wilderness, fed by ravens. 1 Kings 17:6 (“I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” and “The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.”) The titles of the engraving below the image is in Hebrew, English, German, Latin, French and Dutch. From ‘Tafereelen der Voornaamste Geschiedenissen van het Oude en Nieuwe Testament’, The Hague: Pieter de Hondt, 1728.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Pigne’ after ‘Bernard Picart’. Bernard Picart (1673-1733), born in Paris and died in Amsterdam. He came from a family of printmakers and publishers. After 1700 he moved to Amsterdam, where he was active as printmaker and publisher. His prints in the “French” taste were very popular. His way of working was also very influential for the bookillustration in the Netherlands.
Condition: Very good, given age. Tear in margin below print and in lower margin, reinforced using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. Some faint soiling in the margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
