This print shows two mothers with their children, one wearing a basket.

Made by Pieter de Mare after Christina Chalon.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 9.2 x 9.5 cm (3.62 x 3.74 inch). Image size: 9 x 9 cm. (3.54 x 3.54 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Collectors markslightly visible at front. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive print was published in 1777-1779.

Reference: Rijksmuseum RP-P-1918-1897.

Provenance: Collectors mark vE (van Eeghen) in circle on reverse.

Biography engraver: Pieter de Mare (Leiden; 1758-1796) was a Dutch etcher and engraver, active in Leiden and a student of Abraham Delfos.

Biography artist: Christina Chalon (1748-1808) was born in Amsterdam. She studied painting under Sara Troost and Ploos van Amstel. She devoted herself more to etching, however. She left ca. 30 plates.
