This print shows a larger and a smaller child playing with a doll inside the house. We see a broom, a basket and a jug.

Made by Pieter de Mare after Christina Chalon.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 10.5 x 13 cm (4.13 x 5.12 inch). Image size: 9.2 x 11.5 cm. (3.62 x 4.53 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Collectors mark slightly shining through. Some staining mostly visible on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive print was published in 1777-1779.

Provenance: Collectors mark vE in circle on reverse.

Biography engraver: Pieter de Mare (Leiden; 1758-1796) was a Dutch etcher and engraver, active in Leiden and a student of Abraham Delfos.

Biography artist: Christina Chalon (1748-1808) was born in Amsterdam. She studied painting under Sara Troost and Ploos van Amstel. She devoted herself more to etching, however. She left ca. 30 plates.
