This print shows three children with dolls.

Made by Pieter de Mare after Christina Chalon.

Medium: Etching on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 4.5 x 5.1 cm (1.77 x 2.01 inch). Image size: 3.7 x 4.5 cm. (1.46 x 1.77 inch).

Condition: good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive print was published in 1777-1779.

Reference: Rijksmuseum RP-P-1918-1911.

Provenance: Collectors mark vE in circle on reverse.

Biography engraver: Pieter de Mare (Leiden; 1758-1796) was a Dutch etcher and engraver, active in Leiden and a student of Abraham Delfos.

Biography artist: Christina Chalon (1748-1808) was born in Amsterdam. She studied painting under Sara Troost and Ploos van Amstel. She devoted herself more to etching, however. She left ca. 30 plates.
