– Original antique print showing the battle of Rijmenam in Belgium, on July 31, 1578 at the beginning of the Eighty Years’ War between the States General of the Netherlands and the Spanish Governor General. The battle ended as a defeat for the Spanish. The former set up camp in Rijmenam in July 1578 under the general leadership of the Count of Boussu. The English mercenaries were led by Sir John Norris and Sir Richard Bingham, the Scottish mercenaries under Robert Stuart and the French Huguenots under Fran?ois de la Noue.. Scene from the Eighty Years’ War.

This rare antique print originates from: ‘Romani e Societate Iesv De bello Belgico.’, published by Franciscus Corbeletti in Rome 1640.

Biography engraver: Engraver unknown or to be determined.

Biography artist: Famiano Strada (1572 ? 6 September 1649) was an Italian Jesuit and historian of wars in the low countries (Belgium and Netherlands) during the early part of the Eighty Years’ War, starting with the abdication of Charles V in 1556 to the capture of Rheinsberg in 30 January 1590.
