BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in Paris by Nicolas I Langlois, rue Saint-Jacques, with royal privilege; c. 1660. Possibly part of a larger series of Parisian views.

Reference: Musee Carnavalet, Paris, inv. G.22300; cf. Faucheux, Catalogue raisonne (series 117).

Biography engraver: Adam Perelle (1638-1695) was a French engraver and draughtsman active in Paris. Son of Gabriel Perelle, he produced numerous topographical views of Paris, royal residences and French landscapes. His refined architectural perspectives were widely collected and disseminated in the 17th century.
