BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From Augustinus Calmet, ‘Het algemeen groot … naam- en woord-boek van den gantschen H. Bybel’ (Leiden, 1725-27).

Biography engraver: Matthys Pool (1670-1732) was a Dutch engraver and printmaker active in Amsterdam. Known for topographical views, historical scenes, and depictions of Jewish life, Pool collaborated with several artists and publishers, contributing richly to visual records of his time.
