Medium: Etching printed in brown ink on hand-laid (verge) paper.

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Some dampstaining in top margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Part of the Cabinet Praun series, after Raphael’s original housed in Nuremberg. Published in 1776.

Reference: British Museum, Registration Number: 1854,1020.1666.

Biography engraver: Maria Katharina Prestel (1747-1794) worked together with her husband Johann Gottlieb Prestel (1742-1808) on several collections of printdrawings. They reached a very high quality in their prints. .

Biography artist: Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, 1483-1520) was an Italian Renaissance painter and architect celebrated for his harmonious compositions and skillful use of perspective.
