Subject: Antique print, titled: ‘Pulcherrime’, Gaius Mucius/ Aducius Scaevola holds his hand in the fire, surrounded by a group of people in classic dresses.
Condition: Very good, given age. From the collection of J.H. Halbertsma (Lugt 1473). Stain in middle of print, (in the arm of the sitting person). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Line etching over woodblock ground, sometimes with roulette toning, on hand laid (verge) paper.

Artists and Engravers: Made by Arthur Pond after Polidora da Carravaggio. Arthur Pond (1705-1758) was an English painter and engraver. He was most succesful as a portrait painter, but he also made engravings after Old Masters. Polidoro da Caravaggio (1492-1543) was an Italian decorative painter. He was a student of Rafael Santi, and belonged to the Manierist school.
