BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) was one of the most important Dutch etchers and political printmakers of the late 17th century. He gained wide recognition for his satirical and propagandistic prints during the Rampjaar (1672) and the subsequent wars against France and its allies. His work is characterized by lively compositions, sharp political symbolism, and intricate detail.
