Portrait of Samuel Coster, a Dutch writer, seated in a chair, holding a book in his left hand in his study room. Behind him, a bust of an older man /philosopher is depicted before a globe with writing tools nearby. At the bottom manuscript hand writing. He was the founder of the Nederduitsche academy or theater in 1617.

Biography engraver: Reinier van Persijn (1615-1668) was a Dutch engraver known for his portrait engravings and reproductive works. He was active in the mid-17th century, creating highly detailed and lifelike engravings after paintings by other artists. He was nicknamed Narcissus.
Biography artist: Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German Baroque art historian, painter, and engraver. He is well known for his historical work on artists and his skills as an engraver and painter in portrait and history painting. He was a pupil of Bloemaert and Matham.
