BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Published by the Klauber workshop, Augsburg (‘A.V.’ = Augusta Vindelicorum). Likely from a series of devotional saints prints.
Biography engraver: Johann Baptist Klauber (c.1712-1787) was a German engraver and publisher in Augsburg, member of the prominent Klauber family of engravers. The Klauber workshop produced numerous devotional prints, saints, and religious illustrations in finely worked burin engraving. Their works were widely distributed throughout Catholic Europe in the 18th century. The Klauber family workshop in Augsburg was active during the 18th century, specializing in religious engravings and devotional imagery. Their compositions often combined Baroque dynamism with clear devotional iconography, and were both designed and engraved within the family studio.
