BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: C. Dietrich was an engraver involved in the production of prints for Josi’s 1821 collection based on Dutch and Flemish drawings.
Biography artist: Aelbert Cuyp (1620-1691) was a prominent Dutch Golden Age painter, renowned for luminous river scenes, pastoral landscapes, and warm golden light. His works were highly prized in the 18th century. Christiaan Josi (1768-1828) was born in the Netherlands, but travelled to England. He became a famous artdealer and published many prints in the manner of Ploos van Amstel. Josi eventually bought the entire contents of the workshop of Ploos and republished what was left together with new printdrawings. .
