Antique print, titled: ‘Joannes Vulteius’, A portrait of the poet and epigrammist Johannes Vulteius (also Visagier, Vulteii or Voulte), within an oval border with coat of arms in the top. Dated 1649.. Artists and Engravers: Made by Corn Galle after Anselmus van Hulle. Cornelis Galle, the Elder (Antwerp. 1576-1650), a younger son of Philip Galle was taught engraving by his father. He followed the example of his brother Theodoor in visiting Rome, where he resided several years, and acquired a correctness of design, and a freedom of execution, in which he greatly surpassed both his father and his brother. After engraving several plates at Rome, from the Italian masters, he returned to Antwerp, where he carried on the business of a printseller, and engraved many plates after the works of his countrymen and his own designs. He became a master of the Antwerp Guild of St Luke in 1610. One of his pupils was Giovanni Florimi of Siena. Anselm (or Anselmus) van Hulle (also: Hebbelijnck, Hebbelynck, Gent, 1601 – 1674/1694) was a Flemish painter of mainly portraits. His works were highly prized at the Northern European Courts.
