Description
a girl carrying a bunch of firewood on her head, and a basket with a rabbit. Her clothing suggests she might be hiding more inside the loosely knotted scarf around her waist. A peculator is an ’embezzler’ (one who takes private property).

Condition: good, given age. Hosting from previous matting, some foxing in the margins. Remains of tape on rear from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

The print was published by R. Ackermann, in Achermann’s Repository of the Arts, an illustrated British periodical published between 1809 and 1829. .
Biography engraver: Mather Brown (Boston, 1761 – London 1831) was a portrait and historical painter, born in the USA, but active in England. He was a pupil of Benjamin West. He died in poverty.
