Antique print, titled: ‘La Moisson’, (‘The Harvest’). Landscape with farmers on the fields during the harvest This master print was published by Major, Rue S. Jacques vis a vis les Charniers de S. Benoist in Paris.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Andre Laurent after Ph. Wouwermans. Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) was a Dutch painter of landscapes, hunting and battle scenes. Andrew Lawrence (1708-1747) was an engraver, and publisher of some of his own prints. He was born in London, but learnt engraving under Le Bas in Paris, where he died. According to Major, he became an engraver having spent his inheritance on experiments in alchemy. He is known in France as ‘Andre Laurent’.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped to the platemark. Some small stains in the margins. A weak spot in the paper in the right side of the image (not visible in the image). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
